Parsons Falls Canal Road
In response to significant erosion caused by the October 2022 flood event and spill from Lake MacKenzie, PWS undertook the reconstruction of Parsons Falls Canal Road. This road is vital for providing vehicle access to key power generation utilities, allowing maintenance crews to manage local hydro schemes.
PWS cleared large quantities of flood debris to rebuild the road, regrading it to make it passable for light vehicles. We relocated large boulders, silt, and trees outside the road corridor and formed a new road within the existing channel, resembling a ford to reduce susceptibility to future erosion events.
Working in a remote location and an active, unstable channel, PWS implemented robust safety systems to manage the risks, ensuring the safe and successful completion of the project.
